Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

In News on May 31, 2009 at 12:39 pm

0511-0901-1901-2131Well, I think I’ve told every man and his dog about the interview on Thursday – advertising it on facebook, twitter, hotmail, website, blog and through several mailing lists owned by other people.

I’ve got quite a ‘family following’ in Europe who are going to listen via the internet. As I’m related to half of Ireland, a portion of England and a few states of America that should be quite an audience!!!

Now all I have to do is prepare!

Sub-family 1 – The Tillandsioidieae

In Botanical Archetypes, Flower Essence Research, Flower Essence Therapy, Uncategorized on May 30, 2009 at 3:49 pm

Vriesea dubia 003CCIt is suggested to read or refresh yourself with the article on The Bromeliad Family before reading this article. Although not imperative, a deeper understanding of the subject below will be gained by doing so. Click here for the article.

The bromeliad family contains 3 sub-families – the first of which is the Tillandsioidiae subfamily. Scientists believe that plants belonging to this Bromeliad subfamily are among the most highly evolved on the planet in their ability to directly source moisture and nutrient directly through their leaves and not just through their roots. An unusual and rare trait among plants!

Not only this, but the floral genera belonging to this sub-division are predominantly epiphytic ( tree-top dwelling ) and have ‘left the ground behind’ –  a metaphorical signature of leaving our day-to-day concerns with basic ‘ground’ survival and support behind. Read the rest of this entry »

In News on May 28, 2009 at 7:13 pm

Yogatree Classes Postponed – The Wednesday 1.30pm classes in Elsternwick have been postponed and will be rescheduled for later in the year. Although I desire to run several classes per week, recent schedule changes have put pressure on the production of the written work… so, as something ‘has to go’, I’ve decided to cancel the Wednesday daytime classes for now with a view to ‘changing the timeslot’ at a later date.

Self Sabotage

In Botanical Archetypes, Cryptanthus, Terminology on May 22, 2009 at 9:31 am

05102008(001)‘Self sabotage’ is a term often used in self help books, life coaching seminars and the alternative therapy fields to describe ‘an unintentional lack of progress’ in achieving your goals. I.e. Because you have ‘sabotaged’ them in some way, waylaid, delayed or stopped your progress and maybe even ruined your chances of success entirely. The point is that you are the chief antagonist in derailing your own plans.

The concept of self sabotage has been a long-time contemplation-puzzle for me. For years I had pondered the relationship between .a. People’s intentions. .b. People’s problems in fulfilling those intentions and .c. People’s outright failure to fulfill their own intentions. The subject has long mystified me.

Why is progress often so hard, despite knowing what you want to create? Why do my actions not follow my thoughts? Why do we fail? Read the rest of this entry »

Spiritual Materialism

In Billbergia, Study Group, Terminology on May 16, 2009 at 11:20 am

Brisbane Trip Feb 2008 030Quite often, we seek our happiness from external sources – such as our favourite tv show, favourite food, our friends and special events such as parties or other pleasant experiences. We seek out the things that we believe will make us happy and this is natural. It seems that a desire to be happy is innately inbuilt into every human being, like an internal compass that points us in life-giving directions and away from life stealing ones.

At Wednesday nights study group we looked at the Flower of Happiness, Billbergia ‘Fred Gerber’. One of the themes that arose during the evening was the subject of materialism – the desire to acquire objects in order to bring happiness to our lives. Read the rest of this entry »
