The Blocked Drain

In Uncategorized on June 25, 2009 at 4:36 pm

IMG_2002-1There I was. On the eve of my trip away I was tending to a blocked drain at my house. Sitting in a muddy puddle, busily stuffing a hose down a blocked pipe. As I did so my mind began to drift and think about what I was doing.

Stuff, stuff, stuff. Force, force, force… and seemingly getting nothing in return but frustration. As I relaxed into the experience, I changed my approach. Rather than trying to stuff the hose further down the hole, I merely let the pressure of the water dislodge the junk that was drifting to the surface. It seemed that the blockage was clearing anyway! Where Did Worry Ever Get You?

In Conscious Living, Study Group on June 25, 2009 at 1:39 pm

Neo_20At last evenings class, we discussed the flower of Calm, Vriesea heterandra. During the conversation we came to the subject of worry and anxiety – the key conditions that this flower remedies. As we got talking, I asked the question… “Where did worry ever get you?’ and as we continued, a number of beliefs about the subject became evident. Beliefs that justified the presence of worry in our lives!

For many people, ‘life is full of worry’ and apparently, ‘that’s just the way it is’. Worry for many is seen as a kind of ‘adult’ thing, a necessary element that guarantees sensibility. Worry has become synonymous with watchfulness, alertness and vigilance – a ‘sharpened mind’ that safeguards ourselves, our loved ones and lifestyles from potential harm. But, as we discussed in class, worry is anything but sensible. Read the rest of this entry »

There’s a Problem with the Steering!

In Flower Essence Therapy on June 24, 2009 at 3:47 pm

41466__280x280_041466-yellow-black-striped-grunge-construction-icon-transport-travel-ship-wheel1I now believe that one of the main problems that human beings have is with steering their energy!

Despite the fact that we are often tired, stressed and overstretched in our commitments, I believe we actually have a problem directing the abundant supply of energy that we have toward meaningful goals.

Because our energy is constantly supplied to us throughout the course of our lives, I believe that our chief source of distress lies in the fact that we just don’t know how to ‘steer the stream of creative energy’ that we have at our disposal.

We just don’t know how to consistently steer our thoughts, emotions, feelings and actions toward our ‘favourite holiday destinations’ such as ‘Happyland’, ‘Peaceville’, ‘Joytown’ and the place where you get to get away from it all, ‘WorkwhenIwantto’. I feel you will agree with me when I say that ‘people are crazy, erratic drivers’… outside and in! Read the rest of this entry »

Obama Grants FDA Power to Regulate Tobacco

In News on June 23, 2009 at 10:16 am

0511-0901-1901-2131It seems that things just keep changing for the better. President Barack Obama has just passed a law in the US that grants the Federal Drug Administration ( FDA ) the power to regulate Tobacco – from the content of cigarettes to the ads that can be aired.

Now, we will hopefully see some changes in the laws surrounding the health industry itself and in particular the marginalization of up-and-coming health practices and products, paving the way from proper focus, research and respect.

Are You Awake?

In Study Group on June 17, 2009 at 12:24 pm

Class000Often, we believe that we are fully awake as we go through life. We wrongly assume that by waking up in the morning, that our senses, sensibilities, wisdom and intelligence are automatically ignited and switched on.

But, are we really awake?

“We are awake to our self image… but are asleep to our potential” are the words offered by the Skyflowers.
